The Things You Should Know About Hypnosis

Myths have always chased hypnosis and its therapeutic arm, hypnotherapy. People either believe them to be bordering on occult, or don’t regard them to be genuine scientific endeavours. Provided below are some general misconceptions associated with hypnosis, and the real facts behind them.

Hypnosis has nothing to do with magic spells of any kind. It is a very easy technique, which can be understood easily with the help of psychology and other scientific methods. Even people who have seen hypnosis on others often refuse to believe in it. They argue that those who can be hypnotized are mentally not strong enough. But this again is a complete distortion of truth. Even people with strong will power can fall under the spell of a specialist hypnosis practitioner.

Another false belief about hypnosis that people have made up arbitrarily is that it is an alternate state of consciousness. A hypnotized individual is completely conscious of his environment. Hypnosis actually induces a state of absolute calm characterized by a growth in levels of attentiveness, and this heightened sensitivity helps the subject to absorb new inputs without difficulty.

Another misconception, which has been circulated by some scientists, claims that hypnosis can be applied on merely 5% of the human population. Researchers have hit upon this low result because they have used the same hypnosis procedure on all subjects without focusing on their individual traits. Hypnosis can’t be oversimplified like that and works only if there are different methodologies for different characters.

Many people take hypnosis to be a variant of meditation. However, meditation is a purely personal feeling that has got no involvement of communication, on the other hand communication is a fundamental part of any successful hypnosis. Similarly, a period of trance is also sometimes equated with hypnosis, which is not correct. The person doesn’t communicate to achieve a state of trance, whereas hypnosis is impossible without communication.

Another myth is that bodily and behavioural alterations in an individual are not attainable through hypnosis training or hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is obviously not magic that it can change the physique of an individual just like that. However, it can propel the body to a better shape through behavioural changes like eating less, and giving up smoking and other addictions by ensuring a high level of inspiration in an individual.

If a person believes in all the misconceptions that prevail regarding hypnotherapy and doesn’t venture to participate in a hypnotic session, then he will himself block his way to a better and healthier life.
